dark moon magic

know they need no other force.
~lao tzu
those who flow as life flows...
life is a choice, my friends.
in the same way
trauma
is not
an event
but how we
experience
an event
life is not defined by what the universe brings to our doorstep...
but by how we relate and respond to it.

it's not about what you receive...

it's about how you receive it.

how we receive anything is a reflection of the meaning we give it.

is she a welcome guest you embrace with open arms?
...or a persona non grata you're desperate to get rid of?

is it a blessing 'in disguise' that gives you something of value ?

the chance to learn a profound lesson that changes how you think and what you want from life?
the opportunity to build a muscle that turns out to be one of your hidden superpowers ?
the gateway to mastery of a seemingly invisible skill the success of future-you will depend on?

...or is it a curse ?
proof of your unworthiness?
punishment for some unknown crime committed in a past life by a version of you that stopped existing 'hundreds of years ago', or worse - when you were eight ?

is it a terrifying teeny tiny puppy ?
...or an almighty beast... that triggers you to feel safe... to laugh, to play ?

the bad news is... the meaning we give things is deeply rooted in the stories we believe.
the good news is...
the meaning we give things is deeply rooted in the stories we believe!!

perhaps, like me, you were imprinted with stories that taught you to believe the world is not safe
...that puppies are something to fear.

perhaps your parents (and your parents' parents and the parents of your parents' parents that you never even met!) passed down stories that taught you to believe your internal guidance system is faulty
...that you cannot trust yourself.

perhaps you were raised in a society with stories that taught you to believe you don't matter
...that it's wrong to have any boundaries at all...
let alone boundaries that are consistent with what self-care looks like for you.

and so what!?

you aren't bound to those stories.

life is a choice because we can choose to tell ourselves

whatever
god-damned
or
god-blessed
stories we want.

we can choose empowering stories, rejuvenating stories, inspiring stories.

we can choose exciting, expansive, intoxicating stories

where success is not limited by how much 'will-power' we can muster
but fueled by our blazing desire to Be
to Do
to Have
what sets our soul on fire.

we can choose to ask the questions
the ones that make space for who we are
that peel away the 'could's and 'should's and 'i think i would's we took on as our own
and reveal the objectives that light us up because they are our own

we can choose to align with the stories that drive us forward
and

we can choose to be smart ;

we can use
the cacophony
of tools and practices

that enable us to believe in ourselves.

...the truth is

it's not the obstacles and misfortunes that deplete our energy and hold us back...

it's what we waste
resisting, resenting and rejecting

the opportunities for growth these challenges offer.
it's not the circumstances that make us helpless victims...

it's the finger of blame we point at everything outside ourselves
that strips us of the power we have to create the life we long for.

you don't get to choose if you are a creator.

you create results with every choice you make.

you get to choose how you create.
consciously or unconsciously
by default or by design
intentionally or... unwillingly.

choosing to not decide is a choice for things to stay the same.

the perspective you identify with, live from, reinforce

the one that sets the parameters on what is
and what isn't
possible for you
is not set in stone

it's a choice

and it's not just the wisdom traditions

science agrees - you can rewire that remarkably plastic brain of yours (and recondition that amazingly regenerative body of yours) to improve every sector of your life by choosing to take on empowering beliefs

you can choose to reinforce the perspective that gives your life no meaning, leaves you feeling lost, feeds your struggle with suicidal ideation and use self-harm is the best 'coping mechanism' to 'self-soothe'
or
you can embrace the perspective that transforms the darkest of your days into the light you shine so bright it makes the whole world smile what makes you priceless and give you purpose

you can choose the perspective that dooms you to watch the addictions you "can't let go of" destroy your heath and relationships
or
you can choose to replace that perspective with one where those addictions are the guiding lights that teach you how to self care meet the needs to see the wounds deep within you that get in the way of your happiness.. so you can heal those wounds become the healthy-boundaried person that is capable of having healthy loving relationships tht you parents did not teach you how to have

you can choose the perspective in which you are completely alone
or
you can choose to replace that perspective with one that makes you feel so deeply connected, you couldn't 'isolate' yourself even if you tried

you can choose to believe that you live in a friendly universe
that does have a plan

that is rooting for you
that believes in you

you can choose to believe this friendly universe makes you climb the formidable mountains
it knows you have the capacity to conquer
because it wants you to have the healing, to feel the freedom, to know the indestructible confidence and indescribable joy that lie on the other side of those excruciating climbs

you can choose to believe the universe is guiding you (somewhere amazing)
and you can choose to see the evidence of this all around you

you can choose to give yourself permission to take off the muddy, 'glass is half empty (and evaporating As. We. Speak!)' goggles you've been been given.

you can choose to view life through a 'glass is half full (and look out roses! get ready to bloom because the rain is a-coming!!)'-coloured lens that lines the previously invisible path to your joy with flashing lights and ringing bells
most important, you can choose to learn how to keep those rose-coloured lenses clean
(because life is a ride, folks - it goes up and down and round and round and there's plenty of mud, allover the gods-blessed place, and it makes no difference if your lenses are blue, pink or green.... if you can't actually see through them)

you even can choose to have fun getting covered in mud

 you can choose
to become the person
that enjoys the fuck
out of all of it.

i know you can
because i have done it myself.

and i can teach you how to do the same.

flowing with life does not look like

perfect blue skies,

the delicious shade of palm trees

and tranquil turquoise waters lapping at the shore

every day,
for the rest of your life.

flowing with life looks like

the gorgeous sunshine you experience

~ in your mind ~

when it pours down with rain
...because of the wonderfully oversized umbrella and super comfy wellies
you had the mind to give yourself for just such an occasion!

flowing with life looks like

the delicious safety you experience

~ in your body ~

when it's -10º and you're lost in the wilderness
...because of the perfect campfire you know how to build
and stop from smoking you to death.

flowing with life looks like

the welcoming waters you experience

~ in your heart ~

when it's grey and bleak and miserably icy
...because of the hand-knit cashmere scarves and jumpers you have
to wrap you in your grandmothers' love,
the secret-recipe hot chocolate heaped high with marshmallows you know
will brighten you with your grandfathers' wisdom,
the ice-skates you keep in your winter stash
for the winter that is always coming.

flowing with life looks like knowing when to move ...and when to rest.

it looks like having the wisdom to pace yourself
...and the intuitive sense that tells you when to go for it.

it looks like commanding you
...and the brains, the brawn, and the balls the universe gave you
to figure it out,
follow through,
and fail like a champion--
who gets back on the horse
as many times as it takes
to master that shit.

if you wish to flow with life

...but need help inspiring the wounded parts of you to stop rowing upstream

if you're ready to build momentum

...but struggle to guide your internal crew to row in unison

if you want to live and breathe a life that lights you up

...but your canoe is built from broken stories

let me empower you.
